How To Win Your Girlfriend Back If She Wants

By Debbie Mans

So its a done deal. You really did it this time and now you want to know how to get your girlfriend back. Well it can really go either way. She may take you back and she may not. That all depends on what you are willing to take responsibility for in the failed relationship. If your willing to put in the effort you just may have a chance at learning how to win your girlfriend back.

You screwed up and you know you did and now you want to know how to get your girlfriend back. You need to ask yourself if you are willing to look very hard at yourself and put blame where blame belongs. The one very important thing when trying to figure out how to get your girlfriend back is just forget about what she did. If you insist on finding her errors you dont have much of a chance.

So you know you screwed up and you are willing to change if someone will show you how to get your girlfriend back. This may sound extreme but the first thing you need to do is forget she exists. Yep I said forget she exists. So you are ready to kick me to the curb already. Well if you want to learn how to get your girlfriend back just listen and do.

So if you want to know how to win your girlfriend back you need to refrain from any communication. That means you dont text, dont phone, dont email and dont talk to her for a while. Its important that she knows you can go on without her. I know you want to know how to win your girlfriend back but these are the steps you need to take.

The next step in how to win your girlfriend back is to get a life. Dont sit around the house moping around. Get out and have some fun. The little trick here is try to get to places you know she will be at. This way if she sees you having fun without her she may start to see what she gave up and start wanting it back. This is a huge step in knowing how to get your girlfriend back.

The next thing in how to get your girlfriend back is to now contact her. Ask her out on a totally plutonic date just to talk. At this point do not talk about the past relationship. Trust me when I tell you she will bring it up. At that point you can answer questions she may have but dont perceive to be desperate. This may seem weird but its needed for you to know how to get your girlfriend back.

So just sit tight because now you are just about at the end of knowing how to get your girlfriend back. All I can say is make sure you have learned your lesson and are ready to prove it. If you are serious she just might take notice and you are well on your way to know how to get your girlfriend back.

Something you need to understand is that learning to get your girlfriend back wont always get her back. It may just be too late and you may need to accept that. The time might come where you need to let her go forever and just know you did the best job of figuring out how to get your girlfriend back.

Duke of Argyll's Tea Tree

By Julian Preston

The Duke of Argyll's tea tree is a thorny shrub, 1-2 m in height, with long, drooping pale grey shoots. Older twigs have short side twigs terminated by a thorn. The small buds are borne on broad, peg-like projections.

This shrub is widespread throughout most of Europe, extending farther north and growing higher up in the mountains than the common elder, sometimes as high as the tree line. On the other hand, it is rarely found at elevations below 300 m in central Europe and is not native to Britain, though it is sometimes naturalized. It grows in similar places to the common elder, i.e. mostly on soils rich in humus and nitrogen.

It is a native of the Balkan Peninsula, mainly Bulgaria and Yugoslavia, where it grows mostly on rocky, limestone slopes up to more than 1000 m. In central and western Europe it is very popular as an ornamental shrub and is widely cultivated in parks and gardens. Many cultivated varieties are grown with flowers ranging in colour from white to red and violet; these are often grafted onto privet. Lilac is frequently found more or less naturalized in hedges, on banks and the edges of woods especially near built-up areas.

Common elder is a large shrub or small tree up to 10 m high, developing a broad crown and stern up to 30 cm in diameter. The pale grey bark becomes deeply furrowed and corky with age. The shoots are stout, grey, slightly angular in cross section and covered with numerous white corky pores. The opposite, ovate and semi-naked buds are located above a large leaf scar shaped like a half-moon. The white flower clusters, 12 to 20 cm across, appear in June; the fruits ripen in September.

This shrub is a native of northern and central China, where it grows on mountain slopes, and was introduced into the parks and gardens of western and central Europe almost 150 years ago. It is very popular for the abundance and brightness of its blooms as well as for its early flowering season. It is planted either as a solitary specimen, in groups or as a border plant alongside paths. It requires full sun if it is to bear a rich profusion of flowers and is moderate in its demands on soil moisture.

It is slightly sensitive to frost and its shoots are damaged by frost in severe winters. Propagation is by means of seeds and summer cuttings. Also widely cultivated in European parks is F. viridissima, with simple leaves, likewise a native of China. Cross-breeding of the two above species produced the hybrid x F. intermedia with simple and occasionally trifoliate leaves. This hybrid and its named forms, notably 'Spectabilis' and 'Lynwood' are commonly met with in gardens.

What is Chamomile?

By Adam Robert

The scientific name of this perennial herb tells us that it bears 'noble flowers' (the Greek word `anthemos' means flower and the Latin word `nobilis' means noble).

The Greeks and Romans, however, cultivated some varieties with lush foliage and others grown for their delicate leaf stalks which were blanched by earthing up the plants as they grew. In those days celery was the symbol of grief and death. It was dedicated to the gods of the underworld, eaten at funeral banquets and woven into wreaths that were placed on graves.

Chervil combined with parsley, tarragon and chives make a fines herbes mixture used in omelettes. It is also used to flavour vegetables, meats (chiefly mutton), roast chicken and grilled fish. Chervil soup made of beef bouillon, cream and egg yolks was very popular at one time. On hot summer days chervil provides welcome variety when mixed with cream cheese or simply sprinkled on bread and butter. The leaves can be steeped in white wine vinegar to make a delicious salad dressing.

Roman chamomile is native to the Mediterranean region but nowadays it grows wild in western Europe, including the British Isles, and is cultivated in Belgium, France and England. The simplest and most reliable method of propagation is by splitting up older clumps in spring, because the flowers are often sterile (do not produce seeds).

All the present varieties of celery were obtained by breeding and selecting from the original form with tough, slender, branching stems growing wild in salty soils, particularly on the south-European coast of the Mediterranean.

If you do not have a garden chervil can be einilly grown in a pot or windowbox.

Learn How to Run Faster

By Charlie Reese

Improving running speed can be one of the most elusive and difficult skills to work on in sports. The problem is that once you improve running speed to a certain point, sometimes it seems to plateau. You can always work on kicking, passing, shooting, dribbling, or whatever other skills your sport needs, but sometimes it feels like you can not get any faster. Nevertheless, doing the right workouts to improve running speed really can make a difference even when you seem stuck.

The key to improving running speed is to understand the different kinds of speed. Many people think about speed of running as the maximum speed you can attain, while others view it as a measure of how far you can travel in a certain amount of time.

Neither of these is quite accurate. You see, there are different types of speed. There is explosive speed " how quickly you can get moving from a dead stop. There's maximum sprinting speed " the fastest speed you can attain for a short distance. And then of course, there is speed as it relates to your game " how quickly you can move down the field, across the court, or what have you.

The key to learning to improve running speed is to establish benchmarks for several different kinds of speed. Then, target everything at once. The harder you work your body, after all, the faster you will be able to run. If you keep your body surprised, you won't fall into comfortable routines that can cut down on the effectiveness of your workout. That means that one moment you should do a drill to improve sprinting speed and then, immediately afterwards, work on a long-distance running drill. Another day, do things in exactly the opposite order. Practice starts and stops, cuts and dives, and anything else you might need. Never give up and never fall into a comfortable routine, but always cover all the basics.

Some drills to improve running speed involved resistance training while running. Different coaches have different opinions on how well this works, but in my experience it seems to be pretty effective. It can involve anything from running with hand weights or extra clothing on to carrying one of your teammates around the field. It makes you work harder, which will develop your muscles more quickly. You learn to do the same body movements that you normally do running while carrying something heavy with you. That way, when you run unencumbered you will be able to go faster.

Green Alder

By Robert Mills

Virgin's bower is a climbing shrub growing to a height of only 3-4 m. The leaf stalks are twining and support the plant on fences and the stems of other woody plants. The bluish to reddish purple flowers appear in the axils of the leaves on stalks about 10 cm long from June to September. The sepals are petal-like. The seed-like achenes lack the feathery plumes characteristic of other clematis and ripen from August onwards.

A native of southern Europe and Asia Minor, this shrub grows on rocky hillsides and sun- warmed slopes. In central and western Europe it is often planted in parks and gardens. It is a light- loving plant but does not tolerate full sun and should therefore not be planted on house walls with a southern exposure. It is important to water the plant during dry spells. In the mid-19th century it was crossed with Asiatic C. lanuginosa and American species by the English gardener George Jackman, who bred a number of hybrids with large ornamental flowers.

Mistletoe is an evergreen shrub with forked branches that is parasitic on trees. The stem is covered with yellow-green bark. The shrub grows to a height of about 50 cm and is almost circular in shape. It establishes itself on the branches of trees, which it penetrates with its roots, thereby obtaining the water and mineral substances it needs for growth.

Alongside streams and gullies it occasionally descends to lower levels, where it covers uncultivated areas. It suckers freely when cut and also puts out root suckers, by which it is easily propagated.

The hazel is a shrub with straight shoots 3-6 m high, the bark smooth and brownish. The alternate buds are round ovate and covered with several scales. The, male catkins are visible already in autumn, growing in length and maturing in March when their yellow pollen falls on the female, bud-shaped flowers with several slender carmine-red stigmas. By autumn the female flowers develop into a woody oval nut 1-1.5 cm long, enclosed in a green leafy cup. The kernel is oily and very tasty. Propagate by nuts sown in autumn. if stored dry and sown in spring germi- nation is delayed until the second spring.

It grows in western, central and southern Europe and is mostly parasitic on fir and pine trees, and of the deciduous species on poplars, birches, maples, limes and fruit trees. Parasitic on oaks is the closely related yellow-berried mistletoe (Loranthus europaeus), which is deciduous; this species does not occur in Britain, where mistletoe is occasionally found on oaks.

Southernwood Herb

By Mary Rose

Southernwood herb is a perennial sub-shrub that was very popular with the herbalists of medieval times.

The first year it forms only a small rosette of leaves on the ground, the second year large leaves appear and tall, hollow, grooved stems bear large umbels of greenish-white flowers. The flowering period is during July and August. The fruits are ovate to elongate double achenes.

Southernwood herb is also used as a medicine as well as in cooking ingredients. Southernwood herb is used to this day as a home remedy to aid digestion and as an intestinal antiseptic.

Grated horseradish with cranberries and cream is very good served with game. Pure grated horseradish is excellent with hot sausages and boiled meats in place of mustard. Grated horseradish mixed with whipped cream and grated nuts is delicious with hot or cold ham. It is also used mixed with mustard. Cut in rounds the root is used for pickling gherkins and beetroots to make a tasty relish. Grated horseradish and prepared sauces may be kept in closed containers in the refrigerator for as long as 14 days without spoiling or losing their flavour because of the phytoncidic substances contained in the root.

Horseradish is a perennial with a large, fleshy tap root. It is propagated only by vegetative means - by root cuttings. It is important to cut off the clusters of flowers so the plant's energies are concentrated into root development rather than fruit formation. The roots should be dug up in autumn or spring of the second or third year and stored in boxes in sand in a cool cellar so they do not dry out. Horseradish is very good for the health because of its high content of Vitamin C and mineral substances.

One drawback with horseradish is that it can become an invasive weed; it should therefore be planted in a corner of the garden or beside the garden wall.

Nike Dunks - Slammin!

By Jose Rodrigues

After the success of their Terminator range, Nike went on to introduce a new range called Nike Dunks. These were supposed to be a smaller, lighter version of the Terminators. They stood out from the Terminators which had a large NIKE logo on the back in large letters. The Terminators were mostly white with different colour trims such as orange.

Dunks were inspired by basketball and made for the players of the day. They were designed as a sports trainer with the movements of the players in mind. They were actually designed from scratch with different panelling and lower profile soles. They were intended to reflect the quick moves and sharp turns on the basketball court. Nike had a big launch in which they signed up some university teams for example Maryland, Kentucky and Syracuse. The Dunks were made in the university team colours.

Nike relaunched their Dunks in 1998. At the time, nylon was the material of the day and many products incorporated it in their design. Nike made their relaunch Dunks with nylon tongues and arches. The shoes were now more popular and a growing part of popular culture. Nike made more colourways to suit everyone's style and not just the basketball team colours. They even made reverse colourways, so purple with blue trim and blue with purple trim. Something for everyone.

Dunks were designed as a sport trainer. They are streamlined and have a low profile sole. This gives them stability on the court or track. Once they are worn and tested, it can be seen how much more lift they give to runners and sportsmen. In a new age and a new generation, they were incorporated into popular culture.

Skateboarders love Dunks these days. Nike, with its ear to the ground, or its hand on the pulse - are quick to adapt to the changing trends. Dunks are made for skateboarders too. These SB Dunks, have more puffy tongues which is the type of footwear that skateboarders prefers.

Dunks are a real feel-good shoe. And you do feel incredibly good when you are wearing them! You do that thing where you unnaturally stick your foot out when you are sitting down so that everyone can see which shoes you are wearing. They are so good, they are not just a shoe, they are a noun!

Nike enlists high end designers to incorporate new elements into the Dunks design. And they do not seem too out of place on the catwalks of Paris and Milan. Nike's sense of humour can be seen when top artists were asked to create designs for Dunks and everyone from newsreaders to TV stars have had their own design made for them.

Although they are not the highest-end trainer - they were originally made for the student market after all, they can be sold for hundreds or thousands of dollars when customised or with some special provenance. Even so, with all the hip and street cred, you can still just grab your trusty Dunks and go out for the day.

The Advantages of Kettlebells

By Steve Perch

Whether you are three hundred pounds of nothing but muscle or a small framed one hundred and twenty pound woman, there are many reasons why you should get involved with using kettlebells. Even though the free weights you are using can be very beneficial, there is a little something that you may very well be missing and it is important for your overall workout to add that missing element into your routine.

One advantage of kettlebells is that they are pleasurable to use in themselves. There is considerable satisfaction to be gained from achieving the correct form.

As the saying goes, dumbbells make you dumb. They do create a sense of zoning out when you use them. Kettlebells, in contrast, require your full attention.

This does not give the person the full benefits that he or she should be receiving and is why kettlebells are so different. This type of mindless exercise is never going to give all of the benefits that could be received from using kettlebells.

Kettlebells provide a great workout to the advantage of your physique and cardiovascular system. Offering the great endurance and strength training.

Why kettlebells require so much focus and attention could be because the center of gravity of the bell is several inches away from the handle where it is being held. This means that the person using them must truly concentrate in order to make it work.

There is an increasing trend away from gyms and towards home training (partly due to the cost). Kettlebells are small and portable, giving them a big advantage over bulk gym equipment.

Since they are so easy to transport you can take them with you to the office to practice with on your breaks. You can even take them when you travel which is great because there is no reason to miss out on such exercise for a week or two.

There are a great many kettlebell training instruction DVDs out there that will get you off on the right track.

The more you use kettlebells, the more you'll come to understand their advantages and what they'll do for you. You'll quickly find yourself wanting to spread news about the technique yourself.

And the more people you manage to convince to get involved, the more fun you'll have.

Honeysuckle

By Victoria Katelyn

Fly honeysuckle is a densely branched shrub growing to a height of 1-2 m. The twigs are grey, hollow inside, the buds longish ovate with pointed tip, placed almost at right angles to the twig. Immediately above the pair of buds there is usually another pair of smaller ones. The whitish flowers appear in May. The red berries ripen at the end of July. They are bitter and inedible but not poisonous. This honeysuckle is a fast-growing shrub that can be propagated by means of seeds as well as by woody and green cuttings.

This shrub is widespread throughout most of Europe, its range extending far east to Siberia. In central and western Europe it grows on the edges and in the shrub layer of woods, on scrub-covered banks and in hedgerows. It likes fresh, rich soil and tolerates fairly heavy shade.

It is most plentiful in hilly country but also grows in the mountains up to elevations of 1000 m. It is frequently planted in parks and gardens as a hedge plant because it stands up well to clipping and is covered with foliage early in spring. More commonly planted in parks, however, is the taller species L. tatarica of Siberia, with pink flowers and bright red berries.

The guelder rose is a fast-growing shrub with widespreading root system which produces both stump and root suckers freely. It is best propagated by means of seeds and hard and softwood cuttings.

Beneath the buds is a clearly discernible leaf scar. The attractive, fragrant flowers appear in June and July, the fruits ripen in September and October. This shrub is widespread in southern and western Europe, its range extending as far as northern Africa and Asia Minor. In western Europe it is most plentiful on fertile soils in riverine woods, also occurring on shrub-covered banks and at the edges of forests.

Also found in mountain areas are the species Lonicera alpigena and Lonicera coerulea, both of which grow at higher elevations between 1000 and 2000 m, mostly on light, lime-rich soils. They produce flowers in May. The first species has greenish flowers succeeded by glossy red, paired berries, the second yellowish flowers and large, blue-black berries produced by the fusion of two ovaries.

Pea Tree

By Cody Aaric

The hawthorn is a shrub growing to a height of 3-10 m and sometimes attaining the dimensions of a tree. The bark is smooth and grey, older bark is cracked. One-year shoots arc olive-brown, older twigs grey and spiny. The reddish, round buds are located in the axils of the spines.

The whitish flowers, which have a strong smell, appear in May. The fruit ripens in September-October. It has a characteristic crater-like hollow at the top and contains two stones. This shrub is fairly widespread in western and central Europe, where it grows in riverinc woods, at the margins of forests, in pastures and on shrubby banks. In the mountains it is found at elevations above 1000 m. It prefers heavy, loamy soils with calcium carbonate and grows well even in partial shade.

As an ornamental it is suitable for individual planting, in groups in shrub borders and for hedging. Often planted in parks is the weeping form, C. a. Tenclula'. The pea tree is visited by bees. It is readily propagated by means of seeds.

The service-berry is a slender shrub with upright branches reaching 1-3 m in height. The stern is covered with blackish bark, the shoots are slender and reddish brown, the buds arc violet-red and narrowly conical, terminating in a point. Emerging shoots are white tomentose.

The buds are small, round and paired. Broom has a tap root penetrating to a great depth and numerous lateral roots with root nodules containing nitrogen-fixing bacteria. The natural area of distribution embraces western and central Europe. It does not thrive in neutral and alkaline soils, exhibiting better growth on acid substrates. It is found mostly in sandy and rocky situations by the wayside, on nonfertile soils, at the edges of forests and in heaths.

It requires sunlight but will grow on drier and poorer soils. It occurs from lowland to hilly country and may be damaged by severe frosts. It enriches the soil with nitrogen and in winter is a source of food for hares and deer. Profusely flowering yellow and red varieties are cultivated in gardens.

Flowering Shrubs

By Adam Parker

Climbing and scrambling shrubs are valuable assets that have few substitutes. Ideal for covering and concealing ugly walls and fences as well as for adding a touch of green to terraces, pergolas, archways and pillars are members of the genera Ainpelopsis, Aristolochia, Clematis, Euonymus, Hedera, Hydrangea, Lonicera, Rosa, Vitis and many others.

Important in park landscaping are climbing and rambling shrubs (common ivy, traveller's joy, honeysuckle) for walls, fences, arbours, pergolas and pillars. Shrubs may be further divided according to various criteria, e.g. fast-growing and slow-growing, thorny and non-thorny, but these distinctions are of lesser significance.

Beyond the Arctic Circle, in regions with a shallow layer of soil that thaws only during the brief summer season, the shrub communities include arctic species such as dwarf willows and birches.

The first group includes Caragana arborescens, Chaenomeles lagenaria, Crataeous laevigata (oxyacantha), Ligustrum vulgare, Lonicera tatarica, physecarpus opulifolius and Syringa vulgaris ; the second Berberis thunbergtz, Buxus sempervirens, Mahonia aquifolium, Prunus spinosa, Ribes alpinum, Rosa rugosa and Spiraea x vanhouttei.

The main characteristics that differentiate the shrub from the tree are the structure of the trunk and the height it attains. Unlike trees, shrubs generally have more than a single stem, branching close to the ground to form several thinner stems that grow to a maximum of 5-8 m in height.

Many shrubs have healing properties and their flowers, fruits, leaves or bark are collected for pharmaceutical purposes (hawthorn, elder, alder buckthorn, common buckthorn, etc.). Quite a few bear fruits rich in vitamins or of great nutrient value and these are processed by the food industry (hazel, blackthorn, quince, raspberry, dog rose, cornelian cherry, etc.). In many regions certain shrubs and their parts are used for other purposes and in the making of a great variety of products.

Propagation by Cuttings

By Michael Hills

Once the cuttings have rooted they should be hardened off in the autumn by removing the glass and left in the frame for the winter. Woody plants that throw out shoots from the roots may be propagated by root cuttings. This is a fairly simple method, which may be carried out during the dormant period when the gardener has the most time.

Hardwood cuttings require little care. All that needs to be done is removal of weeds and watering during dry spells. Within three to four weeks a callus (healing tissue) forms on the bottom of the cutting and usually soon after the first roots appear. The roots of most hardwood cuttings are well established by early winter.

Summer or softwood cuttings are an even more effective means of propagation, used with shrubs that do not multiply well from winter cuttings, e.g. Cytisus, Viburnum, Spiraea, Staphylea, Rhamnus. Summer cuttings must be inserted in a greenhouse, frame, or box covered with glass because they wilt easily and require a moister atmosphere. Summer cuttings are taken from June to the end of August according to the nature and maturity of the shoots. Cuttings from evergreens are usually taken as late as August.

These are then washed and cut with a sharp knife into sections of 6-8 cm in length, which are then planted in boxes or pots containing equal parts sand and peat.

In very cold areas they should be covered with a layer of leaves as protection against damage by frost. In early spring, as soon as weather permits, the cuttings are inserted in a nursery bed in rows spaced 20 cm apart. The distance between the individual cuttings in a row should be 7-10 cm.

The cuttings are inserted up to 2/3rds of their length, directly in the soil by hand using a spade or dibber to make a hole. It is important that the lower end of the cutting be firmly surrounded by soil.

How Shrub Leaves Function

By Franklin Jones

Though all leaves have the same function, those of the various species differ in shape, thus serving as an important means of identification.

A good identifying feature of some shrubs is their arcuate venation (cornelian cherry, dogwood, common buckthorn), where the secondary veins run parallel to the leaf margin towards the tip of the leaf. Leaf apices likewise differ in shape; they may be acuminate or acute (with long, slender, or short points), rounded, truncate (blunt) or emarginate (cleft). Leaf bases may be rounded (European green alder, wayfaring tree), cuneate, i.e. wedge- shaped, (barberry, mezercon) or cordate (hazel).

Leaves may be either simple, with a single blade, which may be lobed, e.g. the hazel, gooseberry and hawthorn, or compound, with three or more blades attached to one stalk, e.g. the bladdernut and common elder.

This is caused by the decomposition of the green chlorophyll, the predominance of yellow xanthophyll and red carotenoid pigments and increased level of anthocyanin in the cell plasm. Autumn coloration is likewise a distinguishing feature in a number of shrubs.

Rubus fruticosus. Odd-pinnate has pairs of leaflets attached laterally on the rachis and a single one at the tip as in the case of the rose, bladdernut and common elder. Even-pinnate has an even number of leaflets attached laterally on the rachis in pairs, as in the case of the pea tree.

Leaf margins are smooth and entire (e.g. the common cotoneaster, woodbine, cornelian cherry and dogwood), serrate (the common elder, blackthorn and rose), double serrate (the hazel, European green alder and raspberry), toothed (the English holly and mahonia) or lobed (the hawthorn and currant).

Sweet Pepper or Paprika

By Ashlyn Cadence

This sweet pepper, forerunner of the various cultivated forms of the present day, is probably native to Colombia and may still be found in South and Central America. It differs from the cultivated sorts by having small deciduous fruits. The dried and ground ripe berries are used for seasoning, especially those of the red forms with long, pointed fruits. The berries of the blunt-tipped forms and plump, tomato-like fleshy-walled peppers arc harvested before they are ripe and eaten raw in salads or braised, roasted or preserved as a vegetable.

Dioscorides recommended it for the stomach and in the Middle Ages it was the custom to end a feast with 'caraway cookies', apparently because caraway has very good carminative properties (relieving flatulence), for which purpose it is used in pharmaceutics to this day. It was used together with anise, coriander and fennel to flavour jams, and as we learn from Shakespeare's Falstaff it could also be used to flavour baked apples.

The so-called 'Spanish paprika' is the sweetest variety, the seeds and partitions of which are carefully removed before grinding the fruit.

Paprika is one of the basic condiments of cookery. Without it there wouldn't he any Hungarian goulash. It is used in sauces, soups, salads, cheese spreads, sausages and salamis, as well as in meat and poultry dishes. It is one of the ingredients used to make tomato ketchup and curry-powder. Besides the dried ground seasoning, the tinned paste from the fresh ripe fruit is gaining widespread popularity.

Caraway is a biennial plant indigenous to a wide area embracing almost all of Europe and Asia. Because of its large consumption it is nowadays grown as a field crop throughout most of Europe as well as in Asia and north Africa. It does not tolerate wet, heavy clay soils.

The seeds are sown in spring about 2 cm deep in drills 40 cm (16 in) apart. It is harvested the second year in late summer when two-thirds of the fruits have ripened. The cut plants are tied into sheaves and left in the field until they are dry and fully ripened, after which they are threshed to obtain the seeds. The seeds - achenes (1) - are usually dried by natural heat. Caraway growing wild in the meadow is just as good for flavouring as the cultivated form.

Holly Shrub

By Jada Aaron

Holly is an evergreen shrub or tree 2-10 m in height with a conical crown. The bark is smooth and grey-brown. In older trees the leaves in the upper part of the crown arc only slightly spiny. The flowers, borne in the axils of the leaves, appear in May-,June. The red fruits ripen in October and remain on the tree until late in the winter. In Great Britain and the United States it is used as a Christmas decoration.

A native of western and southern Europe, it thrives exceptionally well in the moist and mild coastal climate. It requires partial shade and often grows in woodland. In the Alps it is found at elevations up to 1200 m. In central Europe it is often planted in parks, though it suffers great damage by frost in severe winters.

The spindle tree is an upright shrub or small tree, 2-6 m in height. The shoots are green, tinted red on the side exposed to the sun, markedly four- angled. The buds are ovate, green, often sub- opposite. The leaf scars are whitish.

The flowers are inconspicuous and appear at the end of May after the leaves. The capsules, which are 1.5 cm long, ripen in September when they split, releasing one white seed covered with an orange fleshy coat (aril) from each compartment.

This shrub is a native of the area bordering the Mediterranean, growing from Algeria to Greece and Asia Minor. Northward its distribution extends beyond the Alps to Alsace and some experts believe it is also native in southern England. It is found in drier, mixed broadleaved woods especially on chalk and limestone. It is a popular evergreen for shaded sections of parks and because it stands up well to pruning is also used in clipped hedges and topiary. It is reliably propagated by cuttings in late summer.

The wood is the heaviest and hardest of European woods and is used in wood carving and for inlay as a substitute for ivory; it is also used in industry to make shuttles for textile looms.

A History of Herbs and Spices

By Molly Allison

It was not long before the Romans learned about pepper from the Greeks and began to trade with India through the intermediary of the South Arabians (Yemenites). By the second century A.D., the Romans were no longer trading through an intermediary. Their ships sailed from Alexandria along the southeastern canal built by the Egyptian pharaohs not only to the Arabian reloading site Arabia Felix, but also as far as India.

Man's oldest ancestors fed on the seeds of grasses, although later they began to occasionally eat the flesh of various animals. This was eaten raw for fire was unknown to them and so they had no knowledge of cooking. The change to the present wide assortment of foods took place slowly and our day and age continues to see an increase in the variety of foods, which is mainly due to the use of herbs and spices. Thanks to these it is possible to make a tasty pt even from seaweed.

The late Middle Ages might be called the Golden Age of Herbs and Spices for that period saw the emergence of the science of cookery and housekeeping. Cookery was considered an art and a properly prepared dish the best of medicines. The following recipe for 'Douce Ame' (meaning 'sweet breath'), recorded in 1390 by the head cook at the court of Richard II of England, is an example of the recipes of that day.

Translated from the old English it reads: 'Take good cow's milk and pour it in a pot. Take parsley, sage, hyssop, savory and other good herbs, add them to the milk and boil. Take roast capons, cut them into small pieces, and add strained honey. Add salt, saffron for colour, and serve.'

There exist many records from the days of ancient Greece, thanks to the great physician Hippocrates and the Greek philosopher Theophrastus, as well as from the days of the Roman Empire, thanks to the Roman scholar Pliny. As we see, herbs were used by man long before the advent of modern civilization.

Tropical spices made their way to Europe by a far more complicated route. In all probability, it was used by the Indians long before that. In the first millennium B.C., the Indians made their way as far as the Persian Gulf and Red Sea, introducing pepper to the cultured nations of the Orient, mainly the Persians. Of the Europeans, the first to be introduced to pepper were the Greeks, who during the military campaigns of Alexander the Great got as far as India in 327 B.C.

Cornelian Cherry

By Carolyn Eden

Coriander is a cultivated annual or biennial herb native, most probably, to the eastern Mediterranean. Long ago, it spread to southern Asia and Europe, where it often grows wild as an escape. Finds in old Egyptian graves confirm that it was used by the Egyptians.

Because few can resist breaking off a sprig of this herald of spring, it is in danger of becoming an extinct species in the wild. It is dying out even though it will grow almost anywhere, tolerating dry conditions as well as limy soil and the air pollution of cities. It is, however, being planted in parks and gardens.

Cornelian cherry is one of the few shrubs whose fruits, like those of juniper and barberry, are used to flavour foods. They are red, barrel- shaped drupes that are sour at first.

That is also why it is so expensive and hence the saying 'as costly as saffron'. In medieval times its adulteration by other admixtures was punished by burning the culprit at the stake or burying him alive.

Cornelian cherry is a member of the large genus Corms, as is the dogwood, from which it differs by having hairs arranged in parallel lines on the underside of the leaves. Cornelian cherry grows to a height of 7 in (23ft), thus being more of a tree than a shrub. It is distributed mainly in southern Europe and Asia Minor.

The plant is closely related to caraway, fennel, dill and anise. The coriander sold in shops is from cultivated plants. It is raised mainly on the coast of north Africa, chiefly in Morocco, as well as in Europe, India, North and South America, principally in Argentina. The ripe fruits have a sweetish, slightly pungent flavour and a pleasant aroma.

Bluetooth Now or Ticket Later

By Matt Parker

More and more states are recognizing the dangers of using cell phones while driving. Remember the 10 o'clock - 2 o'clock hand positions while driving? If you are caught not following this because of cell phone use you can be busted either by a policeman or worse, meet an accident.

The outlines of the cell phone driving laws are as follows:

Complete Hand Held Bans for All Drivers - Not all states are at a complete cell phone ban. Currently, the states participating in this are California, Connecticut, New Jersey, New York and Washington. The District of Columbia and the Virgin Islands are also for this Law. This means that any driver caught using a handheld phone while driving can be given a ticket. Using a handheld phone by itself is a traffic offense.

Novice Ban - In some states, a driver in probationary status is banned from using hand held phones. The guidelines may differ from state to state. Some would consider drivers under 18, 19 or 21 as novice drivers. Also, people with learners permit, provisional license, first 6 - 12 months of driving, or have a history of getting a ticket or traffic crash are banned from using hand held phones. These states are California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, DC, Illinois, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Nebraska, New Jersey, North Carolina, Oregon, Rhode Island, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia and West Virginia.

School Bus Drivers Ban - When driving a school bus with kids on board law or no law, the drivers should be focusing on the road rather than talking on the phone. Luckily 17 states agree with me like Arizona, Arkansas, California, Connecticut, Delaware, DC, Georgia, Illinois, Kentucky, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Minnesota, New Jersey, North Carolina, Rhode Island, Tennessee, Texas and Virginia.

Text Messaging Bans - Participated by Alaska, California, Connecticut, Louisiana, Minnesota, New Jersey, Washington and the District of Columbia.

Texting Ban for Novice drivers - Alaska, California, Connecticut, Delaware, DC, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Minnesota, Nebraska, New Jersey, North Carolina, Oregon, Texas, Virginia, Washington and West Virginia.

Texting Ban for School Bus Drivers - Arkansas, North Carolina, Texas and Virginia prohibit bus drivers carrying passengers from texting.

This is the summarized version of the handheld phone law. But before you even think about grabbing your phone while driving, law or no law, look at the facts. A lot of accidents and crashes can be traced to distraction. And guess what the number one distraction is.

Using Bluetooth headsets is the least you can do if you cannot be away from you phone. If you think about the enormity of money being spent for hospital bills due to accidents, repairs or even death, then a couple of bucks for a Bluetooth headset to prevent this sounds real good, right?

No matter how good of a driver you are or you think you are, the facts do not lie. Experts from the Harvard Center or Risk Analysis gleaned that a 20-year-old driver using a handheld phone has the reaction time worse than a 70-year-old. This means 18% slower response to break lights and 17% longer to get his speed up after stopping.

So before you get a ticket or be in an accident, grab a Bluetooth headset. You'll be saving yourself and your family's lives.

My Tribute To Norman Mailer

By Nui Kahuna

It was a Saturday morning when I found out that Normal Mailer had died at the age of 84. It was when I rummaged through my computer. I eventually turned it off, and decided not to open it up until the next morning. I consider Norman Mailer as my hero, and it's so sad that a lot of my heroes are gradually leaving us behind.

Norman and I didn't agree on many issues, but I think that still doesn't matter. He was one of those rare people who aren't afraid to write on what they want to write. He was fearless.

I spent part of Saturday trying to remember when I first heard the name, and when I read my first Mailer book. The book was "The Naked and theDead," written in 1948. I'm fairly certain I read it in 1969, when I was 16 or so.

From then on, I read almost everything he wrote, and if he was going to be on TV, I always watched. He never failed to be interesting, and to have an idea, something most people who write and are ontelevision never have.

I last saw him on Charlie Rose, and somebody else's show I cant remember. He was a little hard of hearing, but his spirit was high, and his time was just too damn short.

I am one of the people who disapproved of his politics, but I learned to forgive him eventually. The liberals were just too different compared to Norman Mailer. He stood firm for his beliefs.

There were also instances when Mailer was savaged by the New York publications and critics. But he didn't care two hoots in hell. They just kept writing and speaking against him.

The Castle in the Forest was the last book Norman Mailer published, although he had plans on working on a trilogy about Hitler.

I could still remember the moment when Norman was about to appear in Charlie Rose. I admit that I was really excited to see him again.

The very day he died it was when I felt a heavy disappointment. There would be no trilogy, another hero long gone.

I felt better by the next day. But still, I couldn't forget the fact that Norman was just one of the few who would stand for people's rights to defend themselves. I'm sure Norman knew about the weasels in his party. The vast shadow that hid them was not enough to keep Norman Mailer blind. He knew all along that they had no courage at all.

He knew because he had the guts to put himself on the line all the time, whenever he was writing or speaking.

He was a real man, and there are precious few of those around.

I imagine the dialogue in heaven is going to be a lot richer from now on.

So, I guess, if God needs somebody to keep Him on his toes, Norman Mailer would be up for the job.

Cola Nuts

By Charles Skyler

Lemon is a small, evergreen tree that produces flowers and fruits throughout the year, so that a single specimen has blossoms, green fruits and ripe yellow fruits at the same time. The structure of the lemon is best seen in a cross-section. Inside is a juicy pulp divided into as many as 15 sections, usually without seeds.

The term 'cola nuts', however, is not correct from the botanical point of view for the fruits of the cola trees are not nuts with a hard woody shell but spherical capsules resembling an orange and composed of five follicles (1), each of which contains several seeds (2), the size of a pigeon's egg.

About one-third of the world population has become addicted to this beverage which is not surprising, for not only does it have a pleasant flavour and aroma but also a mildly stimulating effect, apart from its importance as a social and cultural custom.

Otherwise coffee is used to flavour milk, puddings, custards, cakes and ice cream, generally in the form of filtered coffee made with boiling water. The best flavour and aroma, however, is obtained by steeping coarsely ground coffee in fresh cream at room temperature. Though it takes longer this method preserves the finest aromatic substances which would otherwise evaporate.

Lemon peel gives foods a refreshing aroma and is used in pastries, candies and compotes. The essential oil of lemon is obtained for industrial purposes by pressing (prime quality) or distillation (lower quality).

Cola is a tree resembling the horse chestnut. It is native to tropical central and west Africa, where it forms groves, and is raised in the West Indies, Brazil and tropical Asia. It is closely related to coffee, whose seeds likewise contain caffeine, and its flowers grow directly from the trunk or older branches (cauliflory) as in coffee.

Shrubs and Their Natural Environment

By Robert Adrian

The fruit contains one, several or many seeds. The seed consists of a membranous or hard covering and inner nucleus. The fruit contains one, several or many seeds.

In most woody plants the buds are clearly visible. Only in rare instances are they enclosed by the leaf stalk base and concealed from view until the leaf falls. Such buds are found, for instance, in the mock orange (Philadelphus). Small, hard or leathery leaves known as scales protect buds against damage from heat, cold and drying winds.

The area where shrubs grow naturally in the wild is called the area of natural distribution and may best be depicted on it map. When we compare the areas of distribution of the various species it is evident that some require specific temperature levels since they occur, for instance, only in southern Europe or only in coastal regions or only in a continental limate. On the other hand, some are very adaptable and grow throughout most of Europe from south to the far north, often beyond the Arctic Circle. Examples includes the dog rose, blackthorn, and water elder.

Other shrubs extend far to the north but do not occur in southern Europe with its warm climate. Such typical northern species are the European black currant and willow spiraea.

In some woody plants a further good means of identification is the twig, the various distinguishing features being its thickness, colour, pubescence, thorniness, angularity and sometimes also the number of corky pores or lenticels.

Others are common shrubs of southern Europe but in central Europe are to be found only in warm, sheltered situations. In such localities they are often relics from the warmer period following the Ice Age when their area of natural distribution extended farther north, with only those growing in warmer situations surviving when the climate changed again. Examples are the cornclian cherry, barberry, bladder senna, box and traveller's joy.

Mezereon

By Marie Claire

Stag's horn sumach is a shrub or small tree, 4-8 m high, often forming groups which develop from root suckers. Annual shoots are stout, rusty-brown, velvety hairy, with a prominent rust-coloured pith. The buds are small and rounded. Greenish flowers appear in June, followed by fruits ripening in October and remaining on the shrub throughout the winter. It throws out stump and root sprouts freely. Propagation is by means of seeds or root cuttings.

Widespread throughout most of Europe, its range extends far to the north and eastward to Siberia. In central and western Europe it grows in abundance in damp and swampy sites in riverine woods and up to mountain elevations. It also occurs in acid oak stands and pine woods where the level of underground water is near the surface.

Growing on dry and warm banks in central and western Europe is the related species D. cneorum, a dwarf shrub about 30 cm in height, of sprawling habit with evergreen, leathery leaves and fragrant red flowers.

Tamarisk is a thin shrub or small tree, 2-7 m high. The shoots are slender and green to reddish brown. The short terminal twigs are shed together with the leaves. The buds arc small, the leaf buds slightly pointed, the flower buds round. The pink flowers are borne from June till the end of July. The capsules ripen and split in September. The seed retains its powers of germination for only a few weeks and must be sown in moist soil.

This species is widespread in southern Europe, its range extending from Spain and France as far as Asia Minor. It is naturalized near the coasts of southern England. Where native, it grows in the coastal belt, mostly in river valleys and on river terraces, and prefers light soils, also tolerating salty soils. In central and western Europe it is cultivated as an ornamental shrub in parks and gardens.

This shrub is widespread throughout most of Europe, its range extending northward to the 60th parallel and eastward to Siberia. It grows mostly on dry, sunny banks and rocky sites in hilly country. A light-loving, frost-resistant shrub, it does well even on poorer soils. The wood is hard, with brownish-reel heartwood and yellow- white sapwood. The bark and fruits were used to make natural dyes and for medicinal purposes.

6 Tips For Flirting

By Thomas Paine

If you want to flirt better with potential romantic partners, give these 6 tips a shot.

1. Trim your hair. Get a good haircut. Remove any unwanted facial hair. Guys, try waxing your chest.

2. Move with a sense of purpose. This doesn't necessarily mean a staccato brisk walk. It can be a lazy surfer-dude walk. But make it say something. Be deliberate.

3. Have some pictures ready to show. You can use these to remind yourself of stories that you can tell. And you can let the other person take the lead by asking you about pictures that interest them.

4. Be warmly dominant. One great way to do this is to hire them. If they show some value by telling you about one of their skills, tell them you should hire them to do that thing for you. This sets the frame that you're the big man, and their skills are there to help you.

5. Flirt everywhere. Did a cute girl just bend down in front of you? Tell her you don't require people to bow down before you any more. See if she plays along.

6. Flirt with your eyes. Your eyes speak volumes. Do look dreamy sometimes. Do look intent sometimes. Don't look too intense or scary, though.

Those are 6 quick tips. Not a full course. Try them, and then continue your education with a full guide.

How Artists Achieve Shadows In Still Life Drawings!

By Anna Meenaghan

Where to start on this subject? A beginner would probably ponder on this question! Basically you are better to spend time sorting out the shadows in your picture first. These are a significant part of your picture. Deal with the main objects afterwards.

Shadows can make your drawing, so they are vital to your work. To readily achieve these results you will require the following items. An eraser, your pencils, of course, a sheet of cartridge paper and some mounting board.

The board is needed to create a backdrop for your work. It needs to be large enough to take in the shadows for your work. So now you need to set up your backdrop.

So now you have your backdrop, you can put your chosen objects in front of it. Maybe something like bread and cheese with a plate with a knife on it or even a bunch of bananas. You then need a lamp of some sort to cast shadows, for instance from the right side.

What you need to do then to help you, is to create box squares, a bit like graph squares. These need to be about three inches square and drawn on to the backdrop. You then need to do the same thing on the cartridge paper, only very lightly, and the boxes need to be half the size, one and a half inches using a 2B pencil.

Check how the shadows actually fall on the screen. This is easy to see, as they will be dark. However, you need to do this before you start drawing.

The shadows for me are the positive, important element, with the objects being the negative, less important element. Therefore I would always concentrate on the shadows first.

Shadowing will give your picture more interest. From the far left of your drawing, draw your shadow outlining. Noting how the shadow outline crosses over your boxes. Once you have done this, you can transfer this to your paper using a 2B pencil.

Do not get upset if your representation is slightly different. Just beaver on, filling in your shadow outline. How it can convert the look of your work can be unbelievable!

If you have completed your shadow lines, you can then begin to erase the boxes gently where your shadows are within. Try not to rub too hard, or your paper will suffer.

Filling in the dark shadows now is your next step. At this stage you could smudge your picture inadvertently, so I would have my hand on a piece of paper whilst doing this. You may have a few white gaps in between the dark areas, this is alright.

Get out your 6B pencil, you are now going to put it to work cross hatching. That is, you are going to do your filling in, with rows of straight lines across, then straight lines on an angle or upright down over it, quite close together. This is to fill in your shadows.

Outline the back objects with a 2B pencil. Slowly complete the outlines of all your objects. Just make sure your pencil is sharp. Now it is possible to rub out your boxes with objects inside. What you are left with, is both positive and negative shapes.

Continue now by light hatching the dark areas of your objects with your 2B pencil. Do the edges for instance. Do not do too much.

Bear in mind you need some light tones too in your work. To finish it, use the 2B pencil to light hatch, just don't do too much so that it intermingles with the shadows. Good Luck!

Discover the Foods that Build Muscle Fast

By Wakelin Smith

Bodybuilding routines must include eating to build muscle as a component of an overall bodybuilding program.

Working with weights in the gym forces your muscles to work, but guess what? Working your muscles expends energy, and energy is replenished by your food. Correct nutrition also helps heal muscle injury that often occurs while you are working out. You may not even know you have caused injury to your muscles, but your body knows, and your body needs fuel from food that helps build muscle in order to repair that muscle.

Food that helps build muscle - what it is? Well, to begin with, protein. Protein is probably the most important nutritional component in a muscle building program. You probably thought the most important component was cutting out fat, in order to reduce your body fat, didn't you? Protein is essential. Without protein, your body withers away to nothing. So make sure you include protein foods that build muscle such as chicken, lean beef, eggs, fish (don't like fresh fish? Try canned tuna -it's perfect), and cheese.

Finding out how much protein to eat when you are interested in building muscle fast is actually not difficult. Calculating your lean body mass uses some complex formulae, so ask a professional at the gym if you do not already have this figure.

Carbohydrates are also important foods that build muscle - or rather carbs are important components of foods that build muscle. Choose foods that are high in carbohydrate that are also high in fibre - oatmeal, rice, and potato are all good.

Fats need to be reduced when you are consider what foods build muscle mass. Fat can never be eliminated completely (and nor should you try to do this), but reducing fat can have a healthy effect on your attempts to build muscle mass. Most foods that contain protein also contains fat, so when choosing your proteins, providing you opt for the ones that are low in fat, you will be on the right track.

You may argue that drinking has no effect on what to eat to build muscle. Hydration is critical to general health and wellbeing. All the more so when you are working to build muscle mass!

Knowing what to eat to build muscle is great, but if you do not combine this great new diet by building muscle mass with weight lifting exercises or other bodybuilding routines, you will not be able to build muscle fast. So you really must do both - eat foods that build muscle, and undertake bodybuilding workouts, and you will end up with a body you will be proud of.

State Of California Divorce Records

By Ben Dave

Looking up public records at government departments in general will be a challenge to most of us but trying to find a Divorce Record in California at their Office of Vital Records will be a test of character in black-belt proportions. Those who have tried are likely to opine that if you are able to persist with them, you are either a really tough cookie or you are just not aware of any other means.

In 2007, day-to-day operations at the former California Department of Health Services (CHDS) were reorganized under two new departments namely the Department of Health Care Services (DHCS) and the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) purportedly to better serve the community. Public records went under the charge of the CDPH. This service is offered through their Vital Records Office which reports into the Certificate and Licenses Unit.

California is one of the four states which do not keep track of the number of divorces within the state. The other three are Colorado, Indiana and Louisiana. In regard to providing divorce records, the Office of Vital Records in Sacramento, California can only issue a Certificate of Record - and only for divorces that occurred between 1962 and June 1984. More detailed information on California Divorce Records can only be obtained at the actual county offices where the divorces were filed and granted.

For all practical purposes, a Certificate of Record on divorce is only a gateway document at best. The information that is presented on it consists of just the names of the divorcing couple, the county at which the divorce is filed and the assigned court case number. It does not even indicate if the subject divorce was ever finalized in the courts. On top of it, the waiting period could stretch up to 3 years although the quoted average processing time is 6 months and a fee of $13 is charged.

Certified copies of California Divorce Decrees are only available from the Superior Court in the county where the divorce was filed. The complete details of the divorce settlement are stipulated on this document. They typically include the rulings on matrimonial assets, alimony order and child support, custody and visitation rights. Disposition on all other contentions between the divorcing parties are also captured on the divorce decree.

Divorce records are often intertwined with marriage records, be they public or private source. Even in some official contexts, the terms 'divorce' and 'marriage dissolution' are interchangeably employed. This is because these two categories of public records are intrinsically connected. As such, it's common for divorce records to be produced as related information in a marriage records search and vice-versa. Some commercial record providers offer them in 2-in-1 package.

At 36 million, California has the most number of residents and theoretically has a proportionately large amount of divorce records. County Divorce Records are known to go back hundred over years. Although they are somewhat scattered, they can add up to heaps but fear not! Divorce Records Online search is pretty advanced nowadays where you just let your fingers do the walking. If the government agencies have yet to get their act together, the commercial record providers long have, cheap and good.

How To Fix Pastel Paintings The Right Way!...

By Anna Meenaghan

What do we mean by fixing? Basically it is using different methods to try and preserve your paintings.

To fix or not to fix, that is the question? Only you can decide that. Artists the world over have different viewpoints. You can fix when your work is totally finished, do a bit here and there as you go along, or simply not do it at all. Artists may feel it may not sustain it's colour freshness.

Some people do not like to spray their painting, so there are alternative measures you can take. It is possible to use tissue or cellophane paper by the sheet. Then, if you have your painting on a flat board, cover it with this and press fairly hard. Any of the specks of paint will ingrain in your paper, but do not apply too much pressure or it could alter your texture.

Another way is to fix the back of your painting - this is to avoid you overspraying the painting. What happens is the fixative will soak through so that it makes the pastel damp to hold it in position, but does not really upset the surface. Some paper is pretty absorbent, therefore this is an improved way of fixing, rather than creating like a skin of fixative over not settled pigments.

I would never say that fixing is an easy task. You can use maybe a diffuser, which usually clog up. So the disadvantage being that you have to take a thin wire to them after use, so they are clean for your next usage. With these stand your distance, a good two feet away. Spray from this distance the outside first.

You need to aim for a fine spray. This being so, you need to work slowly, with a steady arm to and fro, backwards and forwards, never stopping and covering the edges well. Disasters occur if you stop as the spray will stick, then start dripping down and leave dark ugly patches.

So now what happens? You have decided you want your painting to keep the bright colours, and yes, you really want to fix it. My suggestion would be to spray it on as you paint various parts. This needs to be done before you put on any last layer of colour or do any retouching. And this way it should keep its freshness.

This is a good way to alleviate colour mixing problems from earlier. When colours mix, your work can be spoilt and this is depressing and you also don't want your colours dull.

To get the best and freshest colour result leave the final colour layer unfixed. The choice is yours, but like I said it is never easy!

Wet Suits And It's Importance

By Ed J Price

The accessory that most symbolizes today's scuba diver, apart from the fins, mask and tank, is the wetsuit. Wetsuits are usually made of a combination of neoprene rubber and synthetic fabrics. They have come a long way since the early days of suit pioneers such as the O'Neill Brothers Santa Cruz surf suits. The make-up of today's wetsuits has evolved into a wide variety of fabric weaves, designs, colors and types of material densities. With the many brands that each offers their unique take on each part of the divers dress, consumers are spoiled for choice.

History

The first wetsuits were essentially rubber skins that were worn to keep in heat and protect the skin. These primitive suits gave way to more advanced suits made of neoprene, whose cellular construction allowed air and water to be trapped and heated better than mere rubber. Even though neoprene was more flexible, these early wetsuits were easy to tear and very hard to put on; often dressing required applying talcum powder to the inside of the suit. Several generations passed, with breakthrough lines such as the Sharkskin and Turtleskin brands adding a layer of nylon sheeting to the inner suit and a textured surface to increase strength and durability.

Combinations of Lycra or other synthetic materials are used in modern wetsuits to replace the nylon sheeting. Brands such as the Pinnacle Aquatic lines feature combinations of titanium weaves and natural merino wool which increases durability, warmth, and reduces odors. Layers of thicker material are also used in these modern suits to protect the sensitive neck and spine areas, and contain reinforced knee and elbow pads to protect the diver against chafing against rocks and coral heads.

The Way They Work

There is one basic principle of the wetsuit; water flows into small pores of the neoprene foam of the suit where it is trapped, it is then warmed up by the body heat and energy of the diver. This layer of warm water then acts as a thermal suit by keeping the cold water from getting to the skin. Wetsuits are actually designed to let water come into contact with the skin, unlike the dry suits which are sealed to keep water out. When temperatures range from 40 to 60 degrees, the average dive temperature, wetsuits are preferably used because there are hardly any intense temperatures for the body to be protected from. Dry suits are used for low exceedingly low temperatures to protect the body from potential freezing.

Types of West Suits

There are many different types of wetsuits besides the well-known full suit. "Shorty" suits have full torsos, but do not cover the entire leg and arm areas. These suits are good for warm water conditions, where the main issue is maintaining body heat at greater depths. The "Farmer John" style (now less popular than in the late 80s when it was invented) has a thickened "pants" layer that goes up around the shoulders, but doesn't cover the arms; this type is good for surfing applications where knee protection is important. In addition, there are now specialized "thin suits" for competition swimming and light dive applications; these suits offer streamlining and abrasion protection more than they do temperature control.

The Hoods

The hood is the next important accessory to a full wetsuit. Its important because over 25% of body heat is lost through the head. They are often made of similar materials to a wetsuit but are thicker to prevent loss of heat around such a sensitive area. Most of the hoods have long bibs that tuck within the neck of the wetsuit to protect against a gush of cold water down the neck.

Wetsuit Booties

While some wetsuits have integrated "feet", most use separate "booties" that are drawn up over the legs of the wetsuit. Booties are usually corrugated and reinforced to allow divers to stand or push off against the bottom or rough surfaces.

Gloves

Another important addition is the Gloves. They must not only protect against cold water but must also stop sharp coral and rocks from damaging the skin. Diving gloves also have textured fingertips to help in handling gear or other objects during a dive.

Summing Up

Ever since its early primitive rubber casing days in the early 1950s, the wetsuit has come a long way. Wetsuits will continue advance and offer divers many new options for their diving experience with new materials and special computer-aided designs.

By Jeff Smith

You can discover all over and with the fast-paced life that people live today, stress is part of life. In point of fact, people are so familiar with it that they treat it as a normal everyday occurrence but stress, when not handled the right way, can lead to all forms of health problems, particular of which is heart troubles. Finding the best online sportsbook

By Simon M Skinner

Many of us have discovered the joy of online betting. Online betting allows us all to sit at home on a Saturday in our underwear relaxing, and still be able to bet on the season's most important basketball or football game. It is amazing that so many people want to bet online, but many of them do not know where or who to look to for help when betting. If you are a fan of online betting, you should most definitely look into a sportsbook. With this you can place your bets. Here are some criteria that you should look for in an online sportsbook.

1. Reputation. Obviously, you want to make sure you check out any gambling website thoroughly before signing up with them

2. Financial position. Make sure that the online betting website you choose is able to pay you if you win. Look for information about the financial background of the sportsbook.

3. Ease of using the site. Make sure that the website is easy to maneuver through. You should not be scratching your head and pulling your hair out to find your way through the website.

4. Cost. Many gambling websites do charge a certain expense, usually 99 percent of the time. However, the website you use does not have to charge an outrageous expense.

5. Variety of available events. Those who find themselves betting online usually bet on more than one sport. Football, basketball, and sometimes golf, everyone bets on a different sport. Make sure the online sportsbook you use offers a chance to bet on a variety of sporting events.

6. Variety of location. This goes along with the explanation given above. You do not want to only have the chance to bet on certain events that take place in a certain country, state, or arena. With an online betting website, you should be able to have the world at your fingertips, and you should be able to bet on events all over the world as well.

7. Rule Knowledge. When you go with an online sportsbook, you still have to obey the betting rules set forth by the arena, track, etc. For instance, you don't have to be at the horse track to bet, but you still have to abide by the rules of that horse track.

8. Availability. You want your sportsbookto be available by email and phone, preferably 24 hours a day.

9. Free things. Free stuff is something we all want. See if your sportsbook is able to match a percentage of your opening balance. Many online sportsbook also offer a sign up bonus.

10. Comprehensive site. This can cover many things, but basically, you want a sportsbook that does more than take your bet. You want one that offers up to the second information on players, events, odds and even results of all events you may bet on.

Give The Bride A Bridal Shower To Remember

By Elizabeth Turner

If you have the important honor of planning a bridal shower, or if you're just looking for ways of making your own shower as special as your wedding day is sure to be, plenty of preparation and an equal amount of creativity are the two most important things you'll need to make the event a success.

Picking A Theme

Planning a bridal shower and wedding around a theme that involves more than simply planning everything around one or two colors is becoming very popular. This gives couples a chance to truly express their personalities.

The theme might revolve around the time of year that the shower and wedding are taking place. Besides the four seasons, bridal showers can also be planned around a specific holiday or event, such as a Valentine theme for February brides or maybe a beach theme in the Summer.

Other ideas for bridal shower themes to consider include:

- English tea party: Porcelain and china tea cups, teas of different varieties, roses, and desserts such as scones and pastries make for the perfect tea party themed bridal shower.

- Garden party: A garden party with many flowers and plants is ideal for the spring bridal shower.

- Hawaiian Luau: Include pineapples, leis and Hawaiian flowers along with luau type foods.

- Las Vegas: For a something different hold a Vegas themed event complete with card games, a roulette wheel and dice. Held in the early evening, this is a great way to combine a bridal shower with a ladies night out.

- Pajama party: Have guests dress in their comfiest pajamas and serve lots of finger foods and snacks.

- Spa party: Best for smaller bridal showers, pamper guests and treat them to an afternoon of manicures, pedicures, massages, facials, and lots of relaxation.

The Invitations and Favors

Bridal shower invitations should include the following bits of information:

- Bride's full name - Date and time - Where the shower is being held - Who is hosting the shower - RSVP date and contact phone number - The theme, if any - Where the couple is registered - Maps and directions, if necessary

Shower favors are the perfect way for the bride-to-be to say thanks for coming and celebrating. Instead of the usual few pieces of candy wrapped in tulle and tied with color coordinated ribbon, take the time to think of something different that your guests will remember the occasion by. For example, if you were having a beach theme you could find little keychains that look starfish or sandals.

Bridal Shower Timeline

- Two months before: Set a budget, decide on the style or theme of the shower, set the date, choose and reserve the location, create a guest list, plan the menu, choose the games, delegate tasks to other members of the bridal party, purchase the invitations.

- One month before: Send the invitations, order the cake, create and organize shopping lists, purchase the decorations and game prizes.

- One week before: Order the food, chairs, linens, and tableware if necessary, purchase the bride's gift and confirm reservations.

- One day before: Begin decorating, pick up the cake, wrap the bride's gift and game prizes, prepare street signs if needed, and prepare any food items that can be made in advance.

- The day of the shower: Finish decorating, take care of any last minute food prep, be prepared to record a list of gifts received, and finally, relax and have a good time at the shower!

Being Prepared For Valentine's Day

By Joseph Matthews

Valentine's Day has come and gone this year. How was it for you? Was it a good, or a bad experience? Did you spend time with that special girl?

If things went well, then good! May it continue throughout the rest of the year for you!

If you were alone, or with someone you didn't prefer to be around, then don't give up hope - you have an entire year to make things better.

The budding question is: What can I do in one year to improve my chances of having a wonderful date for next year, and possible a great girl friend that I can spend a lot of time with? Ask yourself that.

I prefer a three part attack. The three parts are as follows - myself, my interactions with others, and my social circle. I'll get into each of them, and you can analyze each factor, and see how you can improve.

The first part is yourself. There are abundant ways to improve the self. An entire industry worth, in fact. Let's look at what can make you more attractive and improve your chance with women, however.

You can improve your looks, more than likely. Are you in shape? This well help you. A well toned body is good. It's NOT paramount in success with women. But it can help your odds dramatically, and that is what we are looking for. Take up a simple exercise class, three times a week. Or try to spend time outdoors. walk, jog, bike. Weightlifting can help too by raising your testosterone.

Are you up to date with fashion? Look at how you dress. Are your clothes several years old? How about your hairstyle? Start with your hair. Go to a good hairstylist, and see what he or she can do for you. Take the inspiration you'll get from a decent hair style and translate it into a good look.

Head to a good clothing store. Take your time, and be as objective as possible while trying on clothes. You'll develop a style and figure out what is going to look good on you.

Improving the internal factors. Your self confidence, and self esteem come to mind. Improve these, and your love life will dramatically improve. How? It's beyond the scope of this article, but if you go to my website, I can definitely help you improve these parts of you.

Improving any of the above mentioned things will literally force the world to see you differently.

The second part is to improve your interactions with others. Again, it's beyond the scope of this article in regards to really solving any issues, but let's take a quick look at what can help you immediately.

Take the time to think about how you are addressing others. Is your voice resonant? Do you stand up straight? Do you look others in the eye when you address them? Do you have a firm handshake?

For your voice, I'd recommend buying a book or audio set. Take the time to follow the instructions, and really see if you can make your voice more resonant. Another recommendation would be a voice coach, if you can afford one and feel like you have a real issue.

For posture, see if you can take a workshop or some classes of yoga, Alexander Technique, or Feldenkrais method. Any of these will go a long way of helping you create a healthy posture, and allowing you to move more youthfully. And believe me, that's a big part of attraction. Watch a middle aged person move for 10 minutes. Then watch a 20 year old woman.

The other parts are easy. Practice looking other people in the eye while addressing them. Hold their gaze a little too long. They might look away. It's okay, go a bit outside of your comfort zone. The idea is to expand it.

With the handshake, just practice being firm. Easy enough, right? It will translate later on into greater self esteem, or the appearance thereof.

The last part is your social circle. That's easy - get out more, go to places you don't regularly go to. If you are practicing the first two parts, you should meet more people. If you are a shut in, you could double or triple your social circle in a few months!

There it is. Get to it! Next time this year, you might even have a hard time choosing from many dates! Good luck!

The Advantages of Horse Racing

By Anne Ahira

Horse racing is a sport that has survived for centuries. It began back through the Roman era throughout their preparation of chariot racing. But horse racing has consistently evolved through the years.

There is a remarkable category in the different types of horse racing. Every competition is determined by where it is being held and what kind of surface the horses are battle on.

All horse racing surfaces are flat, but some of the surfaces that races are held on are dirt, polytrack, or even grass.

There are three traditional types of horse racing: Thoroughbred racing, quarter horse racing, and harness racing. In the horse racing world there are several high profile races. Perhaps the best race is the Kentucky Derby, which is held every spring.

This race is actually a social event that is surrounded with parties, luncheons, and even the tradition of ladies wearing lovely dresses and huge hats while the men come dressed to the races in suits.

However, the race is not just about the style. It is relating to the winning horse really. The Kentucky Derby matched with the Preakness Stakes and the Belmont Stakes competition make up the Triple Crown. Victory all three of these with one horse is certainly the biggest achievement in horse racing.

The increasing influence of Coolmore Stud

By James Wilson

In February 2006, at Calder in Florida, Irish vet Demi O'Byrne, bidding for a syndicate from Coolmore Stud, shattered the record price for a thoroughbred set more than 20 years earlier when paying $16.1 million for a two-year-old colt by Forestry. The youngster was named The Green Monkey and, as with Seattle Dancer, who set the previous benchmark of $13.1 million, the Maktoum family of Dubai were underbidders to John Magnier's team. Not much had changed, it seemed, during the intervening period.

Coolmores worldwide operations had continued to grow in scale, though it now has a rival bidding to develop a global stallion operation in the shape of Sheikh Mohammed's Darley.

And while John Magnier remains the hands-on head of Coolmore, now being the proprietor of the vast stud operation as well as the Ballydoyle training stables, most of the other one-time key players have either taken a back seat or passed away. Robert Sangster died after a long battle with cancer, while Vincent O'Brien spends much of his time in Australia. Another, unrelated O'Brien, Aidan - a native of Wexford who had shown exceptional skill initially training jumpers - was installed by Magnier at Ballydoyle following his namesake's retirement in 1994.

By the mid 1980s, Magnier and his team were less conspicuous in the sale ring. Sangster raced mainly home-breds and his interests at Coolmore were much reduced by the time of his death. New stallions came from other sources. Danehill was an inspired purchase from Prince Khalid Abdullah for a mere 4 million in 1989, while others were bought from owners such as Lord Howard de Walden, one-time Coolmore partner Stavros Niarchos, Daniel Wildenstein and Lord Weinstock.

In 1995 a new chapter opened in the Coolmore story with the arrival of London-born, Monaco-based Michael Tabor, a well-known rails bookmaker who had some spare capital after selling his Arthur Prince betting-shop chain. Tabor had been holidaying in Barbados where he met Magnier and former Coolmore vet Demi O'Byrne, the man who had travelled with Nijinsky when he won the 1970 Triple Crown. O'Byrne, a native of Co Waterford from another famous family of horsemen, bought American Triple Crown contender Thunder Gulch privately for Tabor in 1995 and the colt went on to win both the Kentucky Derby and Belmont Stakes that year.

With Tabor on board, Magnier again became a major player at the top yearling sales. In 1995, they bought three of the top four lots at Keenelands boutique July Sale and a Sadler's Wells colt who jointly topped Tattersalls' Houghton Sale at 600,000gns. The latter colt was named Entrepreneur and marked the arrival of Magnier in a role he had previously not publicised - as a major racehorse owner - when winning the 2000 Guineas at Newmarket in 1997.

In the same year, Aidan O'Brien had his first Classic successes in Ireland's 2000 Guineas and Derby with the Tabor/Magnier-owned Desert King. A flood of other major victories by stars sporting either Tabor's blue and orange silks or the plain dark blue colours of Magnier's wife Sue followed. Epsom Derby heroes Galileo and High Chaparral, champions and Classic winners such as Giant's Causeway, Montjeu, Rock Of Gibraltar, Hurricane Run, Stravinsky, Fasliyev, Hawk Wing, Johannesburg, Milan, Brian Boru, Dylan Thomas, Duke Of Marmalade and Footstepsinthesand mean that Coolmore is once again producing its own stallions, while talented fillies such as Imagine, Peeping Fawn, Shahtoush and Virginia Waters have enhanced an already blue-blooded broodmare band.

Former Ladbrokes bookmaker Derrick Smith has latterly joined forces with Magnier and Tabor, both at the yearling sales in the $16.1 million breeze-up colt. Smith is now based in Barbados where he, along with his two partners, has amassed a fortune from currency trading. Indeed Coolmore is now just one of many business enterprises for Magnier. With partners such as top jumps owner JP McManus, Smith, Dublin financier Dermot Desmond and Horseracing Ireland chairman Denis Brosnan, he has a myriad other interests.

He famously owned a 28.7 per cent stake in Manchester United football club with McManus before the pair sold to American tycoon Malcolm Glazer. Magnier and McManus also have investments in the Barchester chain of nursing homes, a property company that owns Unilever House in London, leisure clubs, including the Chelsea Harbour Club, and the Sandy Lane Hotel in Barbados.

Coolmore itself is now far more than the small farm taken over by Magnier in 1975. Neighbouring in Co Tipperary and Co Cork have been absorbed by the stud to bring the acreage into thousands, including also Ballydoyle and the Longfield Stud training establishment occupied by Magnier's son-in-law David Wachman.

Two innovations pioneered by Magnier, at first frowned upon by traditionalists and now the industry norm, were the covering of huge books of mares and shuttling stallions to the southern hemisphere often to double their annual earning potential. Along with one of America's most-profitable stallion stations, Ashford Stud in Kentucky, Coolmore also runs one of the southern hemisphere's most prestigious farms in Australia's Hunter Valley.

As well as its own flagship stallions, including Sadler's Wells, Giant's Causeway, Galileo and Montjeu, Coolmore holds breeding rights and shares in many other top sires, including Storm Cat and Kingmambo. Since 1988 when Caerleon lifted the British and Irish sires' championship, the title has only once failed to go to a Coolmore sire. Caerleon scored again in 1991, Sadler's Wells took 14 titles, while Danehill posthumously scored in 2005 and Galileo more recently.

The key personnel at Coolmore have changed. Gay O'Callaghan, whose brother Tony is married to John Magnier's sister, left to become one of the most successful modern-day pinhookers, as well as running his own stallion farm at Morristown Lattin Stud. The staff line-up, built up over two decades, however, remains the envy of all its rivals.

General manager Christy Grassick is a supreme diplomat from a famous racing family, while Magnier's right-hand man Paul Shanahan, a cousin of Tabor's adviser Demi O'Byrne, worked his way through the farm's ranks. Vetinarian John Halley, a partner of O'Byrnes, attends all the major Ballydoyle runners, and the stud employs two first-class financial brains in Eddie Irwin and Clem Murphy. The crucial marketing element is handled by the Fethard-based Primus Advertising agency run by Richard Henry.

There are many other advisers, including that famed horseman Timmy Hyde, who pinhooks successfully in partnership with Shanahan, while a large number of Magnier's mares are owned in partnership with his old school friend David Nagle at his Barronstown Stud in Co Wicklow. The Coolmore story will have many more chapters, and some will undoubtedly bring about a feeling of deja vu. But Magnier can look back with satisfaction that his vision of producing future stallions has been more successful than perhaps he could ever have hoped.

Stalking fish on the Texas Coast

By Captain Dustin Lee

Ever wonder why some guys catch more fish than others? There are several reasons this could be. The right location, the right lures, and you being quiet are the keys to success. Some folks never think about how being quiet may hurt their odds of catching fish.

I always remind my customers that fishing has no difference with animal hunting. Whatever type of animal you would want to hunt or catch, you should always stay quiet and keep the silence. Silence will keep them still and prevent them from running away from you or from hiding in the bushes. The same way goes with fishing. Whether you are fishing for small trout or big trout, being quiet will not scare them away. So if you have company when you go fishing, tell them to remain quiet and avoid making other noises.

To get more fish, go to the right location where fish would surely see your bait. Clear water is a good location for you to see the fish but not good enough for the fish because, when you become visible to them, they would definitely ignore your bait. What you can do is to go somewhere in the water where it is off-colored. This was what I noticed; fish has less visibility on off-colored water, giving you the opportunity to do the tricks on them and finally make a large catch.

Off-colored water does not mean muddy water or dirty water. Clear water makes the fish see you because of their visibility, but on off-colored water, their visibility becomes less, leading you to more hook ups. But I like better the grass flats for fishing.

I usually use top-waters on the grass flats, while in some area with deeper water I would usually cast down the Amber colored Sea Devils by Brown Lures. Whenever the reds pay no attention to the lures, I would then fling the Gulp near them so they would be able to smell it and soon they will bite it. This is how I spend my fishing day at the Matagorda Bay.

Hope to see ya on the water.

How To Pick The Right Wrinkle Cream For You

By Jen Hopkins

You know you need a wrinkle cream, but how do you find the one thatas going to work for you? There are dozens of choices at the drugstore, and even some at the grocery store. Or maybe you need one that can be ordered online? Should you trust your friend, whoas encouraging you to try the one she uses, which is sold through network marketing? Should you choose at random, or is there a way to make an informed decision?

Manufacturersa claims contain little useful information. Each company tells you its product will take care of fine lines, slow the signs of aging, and make you look younger and all within a short period of time! Reading the advertising copy wonat get you closer to a decision.

Perhaps you could try asking around? At least with the word-of-mouth approach, you would be getting honest opinions from people who have tried the products you are interested in, as long as youare getting feedback from people you trust.

But then, how many people do you know who fit the bill? There are so many products out there, you may have to look hard for someone whoas tried the one youare interested in. And then thereas the problem of different skin types; what works for one person might not work for you.

So where do you look for guidance? There are people and institutions that have done scientific testing on the effects on wrinkle cream, but you generally only hear about it in the form of marketing claims. The only studies that are likely to reach you are the one that show some product to be efficient and superior. But what about all the others? Is there any independent information out there?

Prescription products are required to be compared to a simple moisturizer in order to demonstrate their effectiveness, but the over the counter wrinkle creams that can be found in drugstores are usually only tested in before-and-after studies that donat compare products.

Luckily, some of the most common anti wrinkle ingredients have been tested. The most promising one is retinoids, a type of vitamin A which is also found in some prescription creams. Studies show that while it can take as much as a year to work, it will eventually have an effect for many users. Other ingredients such as hydroxy acids and antioxidants have less evidence to show for their effectiveness.

The benefit of wrinkle creams comes primary from their ability to moisturize and protect the skin, which does not require an expensive product. Rather than paying 200 dollars for a specialized cream, you may wish to try a less expensive option to see if it works for you. Studies have shown that drugstore creams perform very similarly to creams that contain aexclusivea anti-aging ingredients.
